Phosphatidylserine (PS)
PS, a naturally occurring phospholipid from soy, is a natural nutrient found as part of the membrane of cells. It is most notably found in the cell membrane of neurons, comprising about 7 to 10 percent of its lipid content. The FDA gave "qualified health claim" status to phosphatidylserine, stating that, "Consumption of phosphatidylserine may reduce the risk of dementia in the elderly" and "Consumption of phosphatidylserine may reduce the risk of cognitive dysfunction in the elderly.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)
Ashwagandha and Bacopa Monniera are ancient Ayurvedic preparations historically
used as tonics to improve vitality and cognitive function. In the Indian
Ayurvedic tradition ashwagandha is used to promote rejuvenation, mental and physical health.
A study done in 1991 at the Department of Pharmacology, University of Texas Health Science Center indicated that extracts of ashwagandha had GABA-like activity. Researchers from Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India, discovered that some of its chemicals are powerful antioxidants. They tested these compounds for their effects on rat brain and found an increase in the levels of three natural antioxidants — superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase
Traditional application of Bacopa Monniera suggests that it has a direct effect on improving brain functions, increasing concentration, and in promoting memory functions. Bacosides play a protective role in the synaptic functions of the nerves in the hippocampus, the seat of memory.
THE
POWER OF GINGKO:
Studies show that Gingko Biloba may improve brain and memory function by
enhancing oxygenation and improving blood micro-circulation.
"Although not definitive, there is promising early evidence favoring the use of ginkgo for memory enhancement." (Mayo Clinic). One major 65-week study on ginkgo’s mental effects showed that
58% of a group of elderly patients who took 100 mg/day showed improvement
in memory, alertness, attention, mood, and awareness over those taking
a placebo (Carlson JJ, Farquhar JW, DiNucci E, et al. Safety and efficacy of a ginkgo biloba-containing dietary supplement on cognitive function, quality of life, and platelet function in healthy, cognitively intact older adults. J Am Diet Assoc 2007 Mar;107(3):422-32.)
Moreover,
one of the major problems within today's environment is reduced percentage
of oxygen in the air. Cities by the ocean are supposed to have about
12% oxygen in the air, but due to pollutants, oxygen levels are actually
reduced to about 7%. In inland cities or factory towns the oxygen content
in the air is even lower. Gingko's ability to supply additional quantities
of oxygen to the brain is valuable in restoring brain health.
CDP
Choline:
Cytidine-5-diphosphocholine
is a form of choline that passes readily through the blood-brain barrier
directly into brain tissue. It activates the synthesis of critical components
in cell membranes, enhances cerebral energy metabolism and increases
levels of various transmitters. It is also used by the brain to produce
acetylcholine, a major brain / motor neuron transmitter that facilitates
the transmission of impulses between neurons. It is critical in many
areas of brain development and function.
Vinpocetine:
Derived
from the periwinkle plant, vinpocetine is a supplement with a wide variety of biological effects. It causes relaxation of smooth muscle, dilation of blood vessels, and improved blood flow, all of which have beneficial health effects. It also provides protection for nerve cells deprived of oxygen and nutrients, and further protects those cells from oxidative stress when blood flow is restored. (Vas A, Gulyas B, Szabo Z, et al. Clinical and non-clinical investigations using positron emission tomography, near infrared spectroscopy and transcranial Doppler methods on the neuroprotective drug vinpocetine: a summary of evidences. J Neurol Sci. 2002 Nov 15;203-204:259-62.)
DMAE
Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE) is an organic compound produced in the human brain. Medical researchers (2-Dimethylaminoethanol (deanol): a brief review of its clinical efficacy and postulated mechanism of action. Curr Ther Res Clin Exp. 1974;16:1238-1242) believe that DMAE increases the production of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that benefits the brain and the central nervous system in general.
L-Tyrosine / L-Phenylalanine
L Tyrosine, made from the amino acid phenylalanine, is converted in the brain into key neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine. Since variations in neurotransmitter concentrations have been shown (Thomas JR, Lockwood PA, Singh A, et al. Tyrosine improves working memory in a multitasking environment. Pharmacol Biochem Behav 1999 Nov;64(3):495-500) to result in a variety of physiological and psychological changes (such as memory deficits), this is an important ingredient in CEREBRATE.
